Overview

Trinity University offers a full-tuition scholarship, called Semmes Distinguished Scholars in Science Scholarship, designed for outstanding students planning to pursue STEM disciplines. Selection Process

  • Candidates are reviewed through the university’s standard admission procedure.
  • Selection is merit-based and not influenced by the applicant’s financial background.

Scholarship Renewal

  • Applicants must indicate an intention to major in a STEM program.
  • The award is renewable for up to eight semesters (four academic years).
  • Recipients must remain full-time students and keep a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Progress is reviewed at the end of each academic year to confirm eligibility.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Applicants

First-year undergraduate students intending to major in one of the following:
Biology, Biochemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Science, Geosciences, Mathematics, Neuroscience, Physics & Astronomy, or Psychology.

Not Eligible

Transfer, continuing, and graduate-level students.

Test Policy

Standardized test scores (SAT / ACT) are optional.
If submitted, Trinity reviews the highest composite and sub-section scores from each attempt.

Academic Record

Scholarship consideration is based on:

  • Official high-school transcripts
  • Academic rigor of coursework
    Core GPAs are recalculated on an unweighted 4.0 scale.

  • Essay (required for U.S. applicants only)
  • English-language test scores: TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo

How to Apply

Separate scholarship application required

Step 1 — Apply for Admission

Submit an undergraduate application to Trinity through Early Decision I or Early Action.

Step 2 — Complete the Semmes Scholars Application

Submit the dedicated Semmes Scholarship Application along with an expanded resume highlighting academic achievements and extracurricular activities.

Step 3 — Interview for Finalists

Selected finalists will be invited to Trinity’s campus for interviews and events on February 7, 2026.

Important Notes

  • Semmes Scholars cannot receive additional institutional scholarships or grants.
  • Funding applies only to fall and spring semesters.
  • The scholarship is a grant, not a loan — repayment is not required.
