Overview

This scholarship supports women who are ready to lead in STEM and strengthen their communities through knowledge, leadership, and action. It funds full-time one- or two-year master’s studies at Swedish universities across selected English-taught STEM programmes.

  • The eligible-programmes list for 2026/2027 will be published mid-November 2025.
  • One scholarship application per applicant is permitted.

  • 15 Oct 2025 – 15 Jan 2026: Apply for Swedish master’s programmes via University Admissions.
  • Mid-Nov 2025: SI publishes application documents and the eligible programmes list for Pioneering Women in STEM.
  • 9–25 Feb 2026: SI scholarship application portal open for two weeks.
  • 26 Mar 2026: University admissions notifications.
  • 23 Apr 2026: SI scholarship results.

Eligibility Criteria

You can apply once per year for master’s studies starting in the autumn. You must:

  • Be a female citizen of one of 10 eligible countries in Africa and Asia.
  • Apply to a STEM-related master’s that is eligible for this scholarship.
  • Be liable to pay tuition fees in Sweden.
  • Pay the application fee to University Admissions on time.
  • Be admitted (or conditionally admitted) to an eligible master’s on admissions day.
  • Have documented work and leadership experience.
  • Not have held an SI scholarship previously and not hold a Swedish degree.
  • Read the full call and prepare all documents in advance.

You are not eligible if you…

  • are not a female citizen of the eligible countries;
  • are enrolled in or hold a degree from a Swedish university/college;
  • have lived in Sweden for a total of two years or more before the scholarship period (starting Aug 2026);
  • have previously been awarded a Swedish Institute scholarship (SI Summer Academy/SISU Swedish-language summer courses do not disqualify you);
  • have Swedish or EU/EEA citizenship, or a Swedish permanent/temporary residence based on work/family ties with an EU/EEA/Swedish citizen who holds right of residence in Sweden.

Required Documents

Submit via the scholarship portal between 9–25 February 2026 (official templates provided):

  • CV (max 3 pages) using the SI template.
  • Proof of Work & Leadership Experience (signed, stamped, combined as one PDF).
  • Two Letters of Reference — one must be based on work; the second may be work or civil-society.
  • Copy of valid passport or national ID.
  • Motivation Statement (completed inside the online portal).

Funding

Covers:

  • Full tuition (paid directly to the university by SI).
  • Monthly stipend: SEK 12,000.
  • One-time travel grant: SEK 15,000 (for applicants residing outside Sweden).
  • Membership in the SI Network for Future Global Professionals (NFGP).
  • Post-graduation access to the SI Alumni Network.

Does not cover:

  • Health or travel insurance.
  • The University Admissions application fee.
  • Family/relocation support.
  • Programme changes or scholarship extensions.
Funding

How to Apply

  1. Wait for the eligible-programmes list (mid-Nov 2025).
  2. Apply to up to 4 eligible master’s via the University Admissions portal by 15 Jan 2026.
  3. Pay the application fee and keep your 8-digit application number.
  4. In Feb 2026, access the SI scholarship portal and upload all required documents.
    • The portal is open for two weeks only.

Important Notes

  • Motivation responses are provided inside the portal.
  • Some applicants may be asked to submit a short video presentation.
  • Scholarships apply to the programme you’re admitted to—no changes after admission.
  • Avoid last-minute submissions due to high portal traffic.
  • All documents must be in English and follow the official templates.
  • You may apply for only one SI scholarship per intake (Global Professionals or Women in STEM, not both).
  • Applications for Pioneering Women in STEM are submitted via the same platform used for SI Global Professionals; once open, eligible applicants are routed to the correct scholarship category.
  • You can only be awarded a scholarship for the programme you’re admitted to on admissions day (reserve/late admissions don’t qualify).
  • You don’t pay tuition yourself: if awarded, SI pays the full tuition directly to the university.
  • Being “liable to pay tuition fees” means you’re not an EU/EEA citizen and do hold Swedish permanent residence.
